A checklist for a filmmakers to prepare for Dolby Atmos post sound

[caption id="attachment_61147" align="aligncenter" width="300"] Dolby Atmos Images In Sound[/caption] Choosing Dolby Atmos for your next project is an easy decision. We at ImagesInSound have some tips on how to prepare for a Dolby Atmos Production. Connect with us to find out how we can help make your next project come to life. Make sure you have the necessary hardware and software to support Dolby Atmos. This includes a Dolby Atmos-enabled surround sound system and a compatible digital audio workstation (DAW) such as Pro Tools or Nuendo. Gather all of the necessary audio assets for your film, including dialogue, sound effects, and music. It's important to have a clear and organized file structure to make the post-production process as efficient as possible. Familiarize yourself with the Dolby Atmos sound format and how it differs from traditional surround sound. In particular, pay attention to the use of "height" channels and how they can be used to create a more immersive audio experience. Work with your sound team to create a detailed sound design plan for your film. This should include a breakdown of all the audio elements that need to be created or sourced, as well as any specific requirements for the Dolby Atmos mix. Communicate with your post-production team about the timeline and budget for the Dolby Atmos mix. It's important to make sure you have enough time and resources allocated for this crucial step in the film's post-production process. Ready to chat about your project? Oiart – Alumni – Brian Eimer

A Sound Editor and Mixer for pictures, Brian Eimer won his fourth Motion Picture Sound Editors’ guild Golden Reel Award in 2016 for “Best Sound Editing: Special Venue” for the IMAX film, “Journey to Space,” narrated by Star Trek; The Next Generation’s Patrick Stewart. A graduate of OIART’s recording production program in 1989, his first job after OIART was assistant recording engineer at one of Toronto’s first post production houses, The Master’s Workshop. After that studio went out of business, Brian saw the opportunity to open his own facility, which became ImagesInSound, a 3,300-square-foot post audio facility in downtown Toronto. There, he oversees a staff of three engineers who sound edit and mix audio for shows like Survivor Man, True Stories, Mayday, Psychic Investigators, Property Virgins, and World’s Greenest Homes. One of Brian’s specialties is sound editing and mixing for large format IMAX films such as Journey to Space and Titans of the Ice Age. “The screen is just so big,” he says. “The sound needs to keep up with that and placement is a strong issue. In 3D, the viewers are in the film. The sound needs be to spot on or the illusion will be broken.” Eimer’s advice to anyone looking to get into audio post production? “You need to soak up as much of the experience as you can, because there’s a lot of knowledge out there in the industry. That’s where being around the guys at OIART really pays off. They can teach you skills you can’t get anywhere else.” ...
